First Alabama-built Airbus takes maiden flight framed by Mobile skyline — VIDEO
MOBILE, Ala. — If you think the recent historic first flight of the first Alabama-built Airbus A321 looked good from the ground, you should see it from the sky.
Airbus has released video footage of the plane in flight. It shows the jet’s takeoff; a pass over the Brookely Aeroplex runway in which the edge of Mobile Bay is visible along with is a swath of Mobile to the southwest and west of the airfield; and the jetliner’s passage northward over the Mobile River, with downtown clearly visible and the city spreading out westward behind it.
Numerous local officials were on hand at Brookley Field to celebrate the milestone after the plane’s landing. Gov. Robert Bentley also issued a statement marking the flight’s statewide significance, calling it “a major milestone in the history of aviation manufacturing in Alabama.”
